Big mistake to put food in a trap as you will have robbers and not home makers.
Thanks for the tip, I?ll take it back out. Especially since I don?t have any ?migrants?.

Pardon me for not scouring older threads for this info.
However, I have a friend keeping standard langstroths, and he is having a hard time keeping up larger populations.
Several of his hives are swarming even during peak honey flow, and after making splits over two weeks ago. They swarm even with an empty super on top of the brood box.
Keep it simple, if you can.
Do you pyramid frames to get bees up into an empty box, while also making space in the bottom brood box?
Do you put your empty boxes under VS over the brood box?
Do you inspect every frame, in every box, and every week to cull out the queen cells?
Do you stack multiple empty supers, giving colonies a LOT of room?

I would be concerned about this as well.  That is also basically just setting up an open feeder, and you are going to waste a lot of syrup feeding everyone's bees within 3 miles of you.  Plus, you will be lacing their honey with syrup if you guys have a flow on already.

And just like that, my activity has ceased, I guess that means they found a place they like better.

An extra entrance is not a problem. It may be a plus.
Na
It's not big enough to be an entrance but thanks for that, I feel better about it now.

BTW, I'm going to pull the syrup off of my nuc and add it to my swarm trap. That should entice them a little.

Here in N FL we have to plant them by April 1. Much later than this and it will be too hot before they are ready for harvest and the bug population gets too large.
