Nonfood grade silicone with honeygate
« on: July 30, 2017, 07:09:58 pm »
I bought myself some foodgrade silicone to apply a honeygate to a honey straining tub that I made. Problem is, the foodgrade silicone didn't get used, and instead, standard, non-food grade silicone was used to stick the honeygate on.

Now, I was informed that I needed to wait a month for the foodgrade silicone to dry and be suitable for food processing. I'm a little lost as what to do now. Should I strip off the honeygate, possibly ruining the brittle straining tub that I made, and reapply it with the foodgrade silicone? I believe this honey strainer tub will only last a year or so before it falls apart, would the nonfoodgrade silicone be fine here? It doesn't look like much honey will be exposed to the silicone. How long should I wait until I use it to process honey?
