Treating Varroa with vapouriser and OA, water and glycerin
« on: September 13, 2017, 02:30:01 am »
Hi
I've heard that it's possible to treat a hive with a vapouriser using Oxalic Acid, distilled water and glycerin.
Has anyone done this and had success with this? If so, how do you mix the ingredients and in what proportion?

Thanks
Dave (NZ)

From what I have read it has little merit... if any..... See here in particular a link in reply #34:

Mr. David, the mixing ratios of OA, water and glycerin or ethanol depends on the amount of heat a given vaporizer gun uses.  I have seen some videos, ethanol base, not such a viable source, that use 3 squirts per hive.  What about the size of the hive, one deep, 3 deeps, would seem to me to make a difference.

BTW, ethanol and butane make me nervous, a dangerous combo.  The glycerin mix sounds much safer.  The end goal is one gram of OA vaporized per single deep, two deeps would require 2 grams of OA vaporized.

I hope this post subject does not generate one of those to treat or not to treat debates.  To each his own, I say.
Blessings
