I have my fist hive entrance facing east. What is a good placement?

in a short answer:  yes.
Mine are faceing East by SouthEast but are in the shade at about 3-4 in the afternoon and blocked from West and Northwest winds.

I once read that natural hive selection tends to be facing north but I see bees move into swarm traps facing every direction.
If you can, face them away from the prevailing winds, especially winter prevailing winds.

Mine are facing SE and West, both seem to be doing good. I'd venture to say that maybe the west facing ones are doing better. Could just be the bees.

Somewhat restricted here, so mine are on the S side of the house, facing South

I've heard east-facing is better, but no way to do it here.

Although if I get any more swarms, I may have to 'bend' the row around the SE corner and let the new ones face East.
