Title: Hello from California
Post by: Mech on May 23, 2017, 11:23:37 pm
Greetings all,
My name is Andy.
I've been keeping bees for about 3 years now.
I have 9 hives.
It really relaxes me just hanging out and watching them.
I am still learning a lot so will no doubt be asking questions.
Happy to be here.
Andy

Hi everybody.
Thank you all for the warm welcome.
I appreciate it.
I am located on the west slope of Mt Diablo.
It just over 30 miles east of San Francisco and about 8 miles south of Walnut Creek.
We have a little 3/4 acre spot that I call home.
It's rather hot here in the summer but there are 4 or so decent sized creeks within a mile and a half of my house.
One small one is even in my back yard😊.
I have only been a been a bee keeper 3 short seasons and I really enjoy it.
I am realizing that where I'm at there are two honey flows.
When I got into wanting to keep bees honey was not my goal.
Not even close.
I just wanted pollinators for our local Eco system and I have always been facinated with bees so any honey is just a bonus😊.
I strongly feel they need to be here.
Attending the local club meeting is really tough due to my early to bed early to rise schedule, I'd really dig meeting some local bee keepers so I guess I am going to have to modify my schedule.
Thank you all again.
Andy

So, did you meet some other beekeepers yet?  Yes, I agree that you would get so much out of beekeeping meetings.

I haven't met any bee keepers yet or attended any meetings.
I am working about 20 hours of OT each week so I don't really do much else.
My brother has a friend that says he could use some help on his hives because they aren't doing well so I am going to check it out to see if there is anything I might be able to help him with.
I also point him to here so he might be showing up soon👍.

Mt Diablo.
   Wow.

We have a little 3/4 acre spot that I call home.
How wonderful is that - we have some acreage here, too.

One small one is even in my back yard😊.

Your letter could have been written by me three years ago.  We've taken our honey once in the 5 & 6 years we've kept bees, and I feel they should be here, too.  For, oh, so many reasons.  They pollinate our orchard and our garden, and our neighbors garden, there are lots of lupines here and foxglove, poppies, clover, many sunflowers and lots of borage, several kinds of trees.  We have three kiwi trees.  Our honey bees don't spend a lot of time there, though, but bumble bees like it.  Anyway, I stopped in at Beemaster's on my way to ordering queen-marking supplies-DH doesn't see like he used to.  I don't see eggs like I used to.  I'm off to do that, just wanted to say hello.  Have you been able to adjust your schedule to attend bee meetings?  Our Countys' Beekeepers' Association meets tomorrow night actually.  -Later
