Title: PED virus
Post by: danno on March 21, 2014, 02:14:00 pm
I finish out a few hogs every years.   This year the breeder that I buy from was almost wiped out by the virus.   For those that have not heard about porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, it is very bad.  The mortality of hogs less then one week old is 100% and over 80% for anything up to 3 weeks old.    It has killed over a million young hogs this spring.   Expect higher prices in the stores this year. Producers will pass down these costs.

They even use dogs here to catch them alive. Even the large males.

Because it is a real adrenalin rush. It is up front and personnel. Not the same as sitting in a tree, high off the ground and shooting it.
You better not make a mistake or the pig wins.
