In my next career I am going to be a reporter so I don't actually have to work.

Wait for the follow ups on this one.

I love how they call them AHBs in the first paragraph and then say but only a DNA test can deterime that.

IDIOTS!

Actually you should run away from bees if you are in a normal situation. Beekeepers understand that swatting and quick movement attract bees. However AHBs understand follow the leader. And if one has already gotten you the rest will also. And if you just stand there you make there job much easier.

Also bees will not follow very far if you run. So if you shake a tree and it is full of bees, run. Run far and fast and get as much distance as possible between you and the hive.

It is nice when dealing with bees in boxes. Because you understand that your bees are basically nice. However in Florida a feral hive comes with no guarentees. And if it is an aggresive hive in order for people to avoid injury. We tell them to run.

Brendhan

As Brendhan says, running is pretty effective.  Swatting is counter-effective.  :)  Running through brush (that is not stickers or brambles) is pretty effective too.  I have two cedar trees that are touching, on my place I've used a few times when I used to have some hot buckfasts.  I learned that from my horses who would get rid of flies that way.

Fifteen stings is nothing.  Deffinatly not an attack, certainly not an "overly deffensive response".

Ahh Yes, ESPN the authority on bees is reporting the attack of AHB at the school.

I feel so much better now that ESPN is reporting on it.

Is it just me or is it a slow news day.

Pardon my 1337 but, "LOL".

Where are you finding all these articles, Understudy?  Somehow, I don't entirley find this to be a fully reputable source for such information.
TCPalm is a local paper for the Sebastian/ Fellsmere area. It also claims greater coverage. It is a newspaper that gets tossed on your lawn weather you want it or not it has no real subscription base because the paper is free. The paper is usually less than 20 pages.

UPI is a news service. Like the AP (Associated Press) Local and national papers subscribe to them for wire services to get out of area and world wide stories. I worked for UPI years ago doing shuttle launch photography. UPI has gone down hill in the past decade. They are however a legitmate news service.

All Headline News is also a news service be it a very small one. I do not attest to their legitmacy or illegitmacy.

ESPN news is part of the ESPN sports network. Why they posted on this story I can only guess it was a slow news day. They are a legit sports news service. However I think they aren't a very good one.

The Palm Beach Post is the local newspaper to my area. They are a legitmate news service and so far the only one to printthe story about the bee test showing they are not AHBs. A legit newspaper.

However your question is a very good one. And with the internet anyone can claim to be anything. I get newsfeeds based on certain keywords. I do not always get the background on who is giving me the news. I learned the hardway that the British view The Sun (a paper in Britian) like we view the National Enquirer. It is a tabloid paper.

Most of my sources end up being local papers however, because the big papers don't usually want to carry local news events like this because it doesn't help them sell papers.

So don't be afraid to call me out on something I will be more than happy to make corrections.

Sincerely,
Brendhan
