TV speaker help
« on: June 08, 2015, 11:39:20 am »
I have a 26in TV in my kitchen.  The sound is so bad/low....it's like the commercial.

I'd like to put some speakers on it, but the space is small, so the speakers have to be small.  powered is fine/good.    wondered if anyone had any recs?

I know this is not really computer, but it's kind of tech.
Someone really ought to tell them that the world of Ayn Rand?s novel was not meant to be aspirational.

I'm guessing a sound bar is a bit much?

if it was small.  I have a surround sound system in the LR, but that's way to much for the kitchen.

What kind of ouputs do you have on your tv Kathy? Anything digital or a analog speaker jack?

analog.  I have had this for awhile, just finally fed up with trying to watch it over the sound of cooking food  :-D

I have speakers from another sound system and plugged them in, but no joy.  I am thinking I need a powered set to make this work properly?

Most likely the tv only sends signal and you will need something powered.

that's my thought.  I might try to set up this surround sound system I have and see if I can make it fit.  I have an old PS2 under it now for DVD play, but don't use it much.  could swap it for the control box and see how that works.  It's a 5 speaker system, so it will probably blow me out of the kitchen  :-D

The solution turned out to be a compromise.  I couldn't find what I wanted that would fit in the space, or wouldn't cost 100s of dollars.

What I did find was a nice little little waterproof/bluetooth/usb powered/ plugs into speaker jack, speaker.

It's not a total fix, but the sound from this speaker is much better than from the TV when I have to turn it up.  + it's small, so it fits in the space.

Thanks to the Best Buy guy who really knew what was in the store and helped me weed though a bunch of stuff to find this little gem.
