Are Jack Rabbits good to eat?
« on: April 25, 2023, 11:25:51 am »
I was in the humor section and seen a picture of a Jack Rabbit posted By Beemaster 2. Cottontail rabbits are good eating in my opinion, are Jack Rabbits 'good eating' as well?

Jack Rabbits are tough and stringy but otherwise fine.  If you skin them, put them in brine for four days to or so tenderize and then stew them they are pretty good.

Anything is good eating if you're hungry enough

Well Occam, I will give you credit and I agree! lol.

Allow me to try again from another angle :cheesy:
In comparison to feasting on Cotton Tail Rabbits (if you like them that is), where would you rank Jacks on a 1-10 scale as far as taste, texture, and all around good eating?

If I had a young cottontail I would bread it and fry it like chicken.  If I had a jackrabbit, I would stew it like an old hen.  Both are fine eating.  But if you fry the jackrabbit up, it's a bit chewy.

I always liked cotton tail boiled before cooking it on whatever preferred method.  Maybe (MB?) jack rabbit could be the same.  I forgot that once and could not eat the tuff cotton tail. Threw it in some bbq sauce and boiled it, it was great pulled rabbit.

I admit I've never done it, but it's got a name: Parboiled.  You boil it first and then cook it however you want.
