Title: New Beekeeper from Iowa
Post by: dmoody256 on March 26, 2020, 03:14:28 pm
Hello Beemaster!

I am a new beekeeper, got a single hive last summer near august, and overwintered them (unsuccessfully). Hoping I can draw some knowledge and experience from this place.

Welcome to Beemaster, IMHO this the best forum.  I am old enough to repeat things and most of my friends don't remember, My philosophy : Every thing is true under some conditions and every thing is false under other conditions.  This is especially true for bee keepers. EXAMPLE  A nephew of mine had several hundred hives and his friend had thousands.  I helped them work their bees and they put 9 frames in a 10 frame hive with great success I have tried it a few times and I have the "WONKEST' combs you can imagine.  Try swarm traps it is addictive as fishing.

Greetings!

Overwintering a new hive started in August is a really tough gig.  Were you able to ascertain the cause of the colony collapse?

Welcome to Beemaster.
You had the odds stacked against you starting a hive in your area.
