Catching Stragglers
« on: May 31, 2018, 02:48:14 pm »
I moved 3 hives last night about 6 miles. I left a nuc in the spot where I took them from. This morning there is a fair amount of activity in the nuc. Is it worth trying to make something from this or should I just bring it to the new location and dump out around the hives?

The problem with trying to make a hive from those bee is that they are all field bees. No nurse bees. Field bees are not very good at making queens.
I recommend that you take the frames of bees and replace empty frames in hives that need bees.
If you dump them in your apiary they will probably end up in your strongest hive.
If you were to pour them onto the landing board of your weak hive there is a good chance they will move in. If there is no flow where they are presently located, spray them with a little sugar water so that they have something to offer their new hive.
