Woke up this morning to see this.
« on: May 08, 2018, 10:35:37 am »
I was getting my son up this morning and when I opened the curtains here is what I saw:

The first picture is the swarm on top of the hummingbird feeder bottle. The second picture is the bees that were on the bottom part of the feeder. They were so heavy it fell off.
I pa double deep Nuc in front of them on the ground and picked up the bottom piece and shook them in. The queen was in it so I picked her up, took her inside, marked her and put her in a cage in the box. Will be moving the box after breakfast.

Sweet!  That's a nice swarm and an easy catch.

Winter is coming.

I can't say I hate the government, but I am proudly distrustful of them.

Nice Situtation!!
2 Chronicles 7:14
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Thanks everyone.
I suspect they swarmed yesterday, we were gone from 2:00 PM until after dark.
They are all in the box and moved it o the apiary.
I will release the virgin queen on Thursday.

Why did she have to be caged?  Was this one of your hives?

I?m pretty sure this is from one of my hives. By keeping her in the hive for a couple of days, the bees are locked to the box and start building and storing in it. When I release her they have a better chance of staying.

Another option is to put a queen excluder over the entrance.

Yes Moe,
I do that when I cannot find the queen. Tomorrow I will be letting them out.
I checked on them 30 minutes and a lot of bees were orienting.
