No sweat. I still have a desktop. Won't have a laptop, much less a "not-so" smart phone.

Shed full of PC carcasses, as most 'geeks' our age would have.
But I also have G'kids sooo shared time there is more fruitful
when done at their level.
Were I to mention OSI Model to my 9yr old she would drag out
the Barbie in preparation for playtime  :-)))

For touch screens the link is then dead, preventing
casual connect whilst scrolling...as just happened again
with LJ's link to a videoed dissertation.

So funny.  I am picturing my wife slapping her phone as it blasts off some unintentional video from FB scrolls at high volume.  Her frustrations mount to almost throwing the $800 device against the wall.
Sounds to me that maybe it is the smart phone that should require maybe a double tap to activate a link or maybe it is the user that can't program such feature.

It saves bandwidth for the forum.

I trust if this were a problem for the forum the administrator could find a solution.  Maybe not allow mobile device to access links with out jumping through hoops instead of asking people to be inconvenienced when they are using a device that doesn't have the problem.

It's not a problem. It's just a courtesy some members want to extend to the owners, and some members don't. It's your choice. Kinda like allowing someone to go through a door first. Not a big deal, just something some folks like to do.

..... what does 'breaking the link' do?

For touch screens the link is then dead, preventing
casual connect whilst scrolling...as just happened again
with LJ's link to a videoed dissertation.
Bill

Eh ?  Which one was that then  ...   as far as possible I put Youtube links in a code box, so the user HAS to copy and paste them - that is, if they want to - rather than the compulsory opening-up of a YouTube display.

Yep, I have noted you put some work into your links LJ... that list of
videos a while back being a fine example for others to follow. Thanks.
It was (is) the Marion Ellis video on OA I mentioned. Yet to be watched
in full the vid boots up as the finger walks the page.
As Wally has put... no biggee just another way of showing awareness
of the topic of bandwidth and consideration then of both users and
the guy/gal who writes the cheque for the host each quarter. Cheers.

It's not a problem.
It must be me then.  I have always worked on problems and ignored what isn't a problem.  It makes the mind that much more a tuned to solving problems instead of making more that don't exist.

Or you could say some people want to be courteous and some don't. Just the difference in people.
