apple cider
« on: October 17, 2014, 01:18:34 pm »
This link worked when I put it up but something happened. Its from Brew Your Own Magazine. What they did was mounted a garbage disposal under a 20 X 20 X 4" deep box on legs. The outlet to the disposal ran over a bucket. The guy was dropping apple halves (with no water) in it and the were coming out like a play dough fun factory ready to be pressed

I have to build one of these

Here is a picture of my apple scratter.

You will note the ear plugs. I turned the pulley and when I mounted it, I did not get it centred. The noise was bad. It eventually burned the shaft pretty bad. I purchased a pulley and as of today some pillow bearings (after running it with the new pulley I thought I would spend the extra $25
The business end is a white oak glue up with stainless steel heads:

Here is a picture of the press, I use a car jack. How well the press works depends on how fine the apples are ground.  I find that I always leave the apples for at least 2 weeks after picking and get way more juice.

I was thinking about getting a couple hydraulic cylinders and making a press that uses the hydraulics of the tractor. If I do it right I can hook it up so the PTO powers the grinder.

not a bad idea... Depending on how it is done it shouldn't be that hard to modify so long as it is a vertical shaft. But if you could take the hydraulic cylinder off and use it as a stand alone even a horizontal shaft could be overcome.
