Title: Ultrasonic cleaner
Post by: BeeMaster2 on February 08, 2017, 12:41:58 am
I am looking to buy an ultrasonic cleaner. A good friend bought the $69 unit from harbor freight and I was going to do the same but that unit is very limited. It only has a 8 minute timer and can only do 2 cycles before you have to give it a 20 minute rest. It also cannot handle 150 degree temperature and must be allowed to cool down. Just when it gets to optimal cleaning temperature. I am looking for one in the $130 range.

Thanks Wally,
In the price range I am looking at they are too small, less than a pint or they have very short timers.

What are you using the cleaner for?
Hand guns, shells and equipment parts. I would like to be able to clean an entire hand gun in tact.

check with oldd jewlry store. they have the good ones. I have one that's 6 wide by 24 inches long by 8 inches deep that heats water to boil if wanted. added four vibrator pads to unit. cleans great. got mine from estate sale.

I got one...  its a lymen i beleive...  heats and has a 4 min timer.

You cant clean guns in tact..  still gotta take it apart and clean the parts...  i add simple green and water mixture.

Brass..  it cleans ok, but nothing like stainless pin rotory tumblers do..

You dont need a long timer on them...  maybe run it twice...

It makes certain metals rust too if your not careful what you use it on.

Cheap guns ita strip the bluing off em if you arent careful what additive you use...  gun part additive stripped bluing...  simple green mixed with water has worked way better for me..

a old dental or doctors sterial bath would work then just add the little vibrators from one of those cheap back messagers. thats what they are.

I use the cleaning powder that we use to clean engine blocks in heated power unit. stuff is highly contrated. use two table spoons in gal water. it cleanes everything and makes metal shine. but wont remove bluing or paint just carbon and grime. check with local engine rebuild shop. also check wit trans rebuild shop they use the parts washer cabinet that heats and spray cleans with the soap.

I didn't get one yet. Right now I have too much on my plate to be able to use it.

When Jim said that I thought he was looking for one about the size of a bath tub.  My recommendation would be to use an airless spray gun and kerosene.

On the Hornady 2L product. I wanted Lyman but it was out of my price range.
