Title: Dead bees questions
Post by: Dr. B in Wisconsin on March 10, 2014, 06:40:20 pm
Hello everyone
Bees did not make it through the cold winter here in Wisconsin. I had lots of honey and pollen in the lower deep but I guess they could not make it there. My questions are is the pollen in the frames still good? Is the unused honey still good for the bees to reuse, it might be 2 years old but looks ok. If the pollen is last years how long would it be usable or do the bees just remove it if it is older. Thanks for any answers

Hope you have a package or a nuc to share those perfectly good stores with. Yes, if the pollen is too old, the bees will just throw it away.  The age of the honey is immaterial as it is nearly immortal.  In the winter in cold country, the only stores that really matter are above the cluster unfortunately.

I would agree with Vance, and sorry for your loss.
