Title: Beeswax Salve Base
Post by: homer on January 23, 2011, 12:58:04 pm
Can anyone help me with a simple recipe for a beeswax salve base, a good thick salve?  I've used a product for sore muscles from running, called Wintercrest.  It's great stuff and works really well, though It always made me really itchy.  Come to find out, it's got propolis in it along with lots of other things.  I've got a terrible skin allergy to propolis so I can't use the salve anymore.  I was able to purchase their blend of oils that they use in it, now I just need to find out how to put it into a salve.  It's quite hard in the jar, much more so than lip balm.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

For lip balm, I do 1 part beeswax to 4 parts oil. For a thinner, more spreadable texture (salve?), I do 1 part beeswax to 3 parts oil. So far I have really liked about equal parts olive oil, sweet almond oil and castor oil. Good luck!
