I took one of the deep, 6 frame swarm traps I made a few years ago and cut about 5 inches off one side, then boarded up that side. When narrowed, it makes a nice, deep Layen's nuc, which I used to make my first Layen's split. I pulled three brood frames and a resource frame. Those 4 are equal to a 5 frame deep langstroth nuc.
