Was this swarm related?
« on: August 26, 2019, 10:16:50 am »
So long story short, this colony swarmed a couple weeks ago. By my calculations, the new queen should have been back and beginning to lay by this weekend and I went in to check.  There is a good amount of very young larve, so things look well so far on the Queen front.

During the inspection I saw this honey frame.
Pre-swarm, this frame was overdrawn and capped. Now, much of the frame is ?eaten? back to normal depth.
Is this from the bees engorging themselves before departing?

I am not bemoaning the honey loss. I don?t sell honey and just steal a little for my personal use.
The question is more about learning ?what?s normal?.

Either that or they are clearing space for the queen to lay.
3rd year of beekeeping and I still have lots to learn

Thanks Xerox.
I appreciate your response.

It doesn't show in the picture but all the open cells still had honey in them and in other parts of the hive there were frames with large patches of empty cells.
That's why I suspected swarm but I had never seen this before so I wanted to check the Beemaster "brain trust".
