Title: First swarm caught in our swarm trap for 2015
Post by: BeeMaster2 on March 17, 2015, 08:45:17 pm
Here are 2 videos my wife took this evening.
We were working in a large hive that had lots of open and capped queen cells. We did not see the queen. We made 3 hives and a nuc from it.  We were almost done when my wife Judy looked up at the swarm trap and saw the swarm on it.
It must have swarmed before we opened up the hive.

I am guessing since I don't have a face book account or for some other reason, your vidios wouldn't come up.  Congratulation for not losing them.

Thanks GWW.
Sorry about not being able to view it.
I do not have a face book account and I checked it with this IPad and it worked. My wife has the Facebook account that was used to store the video.

I do have a facebook account but it comes up with:

The page you requested cannot be displayed right now. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may have expired, or you may not have permission to view this page.

My guess is that it has something to do with your privacy settings.

Well, the videos are on my wife's phone. It will be next week before she gets back and then I will put a copy on utube so that everyone can see them.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like lots of fun. I hope to be deploying several swarm traps around the county next week.

No problem. Good luck. Use some lemongrass oil and if you have it, use one old comb and leave the rest of the frames empty. No foundation. The bees measure the space and the foundation makes it look smaller than it is.

Nicely done.
I hope I am as fortunate.
Plan to put up a few in the next few weeks.

Thanks, be sure to add a Q-tip with lemon grass oil on it and if you happen to have any dead queens, put them in a small jar of alcohol. Dip the other end of the Q-tip in the alcohol and place it in a sealed baggie. Place the baggie in the bottom of the trap and put 2 drops of lemon grass oil on top of a frame. I hang them on rope with pulleys to pull them high into a tree.

Nice swarm catch Jim. Not sure how I missed this post before. Seems your wife is a good sport with the bees too!
Did you end up with a laying queen ?
