Title: Mary's Hive
Post by: FatherMichael on January 28, 2020, 05:02:46 pm
My wife loves garden hives.  She also likes to finish and decorate things.  Having redone the bedroom she is working now on her office.

So, I ordered a hive from Kelley with the nice wood for her.  Now I've built a cover for it.  Needed to figure out what to do about a cover because I didn't do such a good job on the garden hive we have already.

What do you think?

Thanks!

I think that she will stain it but is also talking about some punched tin art in the triangle of the roof.

She does a great job of finishing and decorating things.

Looks great.
You can get ideas if you look up products made for doll houses.

Wow, real shingle roof, beautiful wood too.  Looks better than my house!!  You are going to spoil your bees and your deserving wife.  However the wife sounds like a keeper for sure, so keep her happy and count your Blessings.

Looks nice, but be careful. Seal all cracks and crevices with silicone caulk, NOT chalk caulk. A 1/4 in. hole can spell disaster. Comb built and filled in the attic, SHB, roaches, ETC. ETC. ETC. can live up there.

ECO wood treatment makes the wood look old, but prevents decay.

Father: The tree behind the hive, kinda out of focus but looks like maybe blooming.  What kind of tree?  Beautiful green I might add, my trees still baron.

Finished up Mary's hive.  She is anxious to get it finished.

Will use it for a swarm trap this year, since I've already bought all the bees I can afford for one year!  LOL

Looks so nice, a real cedar roof.  Cedar roofs used to be common on houses, now very rare.  Health to your bees.

Here it is stained and deployed as a bait hive in the back yard.  Turned out very nice, eh?

Yes, absolutely looks great.  I won?t mention the roof anymore.  I?ll bet it?s peaceful to just sit and watch the bees.  There is something pleasant, relaxing about watching the honeybees.  I cannot explain the comfort granted by watching honeybees, however the folks here, understand.

Health to your bees.
