Always called it a keyhole saw, but try out one like this. Looks like they may be marketed as drywall, Sheetrock, wallboard or jab saws.

I have tried these as well, better than a skill saw in my opinion for sheetrock, but personally I prefer a multi functional tool. Each to his own. lol

Multi tool should be fine for dry wall. You could get through it with a box cutter if you wanted to.

I wanted to with a box cutter a few times until I tried the multi-tool. I found out how much faster, easier, cleaner, and smoother things went with a multi functional tool. The first one I bought was from Fine tools from Germany for around $239.00 plus. It lasted a grand total of 6 month until the brushes burned out. I found the cheap ones sold at HF last just as long. As far as the advertised cutting through nails by the Gramany tool was totally false. The replacement blades cost me $53 dollars for 3 as compared to $6.99 each at HF. Just do not hit nails!  :cheesy:
As Honey Pump might say, I hope this helps....

Neither and none. The multi functional tool is electric. was advertised on tv on saturday morning for years as The Multimaster. Do you really think that I, or anyone else would pay  239 for that? Do you do cutouts?  If you are just trolling I see I am wasting my time in trying to help!

I haven?t done any cut outs, but I do have an oscillating tool. It?s funny how we can misunderstand each other based off terminology.

Good, I did not say you were. I did say. "If you are just trolling I see I am wasting my time in trying to help! "

Now, how much do you really want for that box cutter?  I might still be interested, but I'm not paying you $239.00 for it! lol

I didn?t mean for this get out of hand. I read multi tool and multifunctional tool interchangeably and breezed right over the brushes burning up. I thought I was being cute and made a joke.
Box cutters (razors) are indeed handy when doing Sheetrock. I use them when doing patch work, installing new door cases and such.
The oscillating tool or multi fiction tool is handy as well. Mine is a Porter Cable frame Lowe?s. I?ve never called it or heard it (where it sunk in at least) called a multifunction tool.

I have not used the rockwell tool though it is probably built on the same principle. I did not intend to offend you. I did mention the multi functional tool in post 20, which is a tool sold by Harbor Freight and again in post 22 using the very description used in their lineup for this tool. Before this I also mentioned, before you posted your pictures, the very name of the company which makes the "Multimaster"  the version from Fine tools from Germany in post 22. I think this was the original tool of this kind? Two different names same function. The multi functional tool form HF has the same 'look' as the tool I have seen JP and Schawee use numerous times in their videos and cutouts as well. Maybe theirs is a different name and brand?
Honestly, do you think your post of pictures of a box cutter and a multi blade pocket knife are worth $239.00? I will answer for you, No; I know you don't. That is why I ask if you were trolling and if so was I wasting my time in trying to help.   No offence intended here of my part.  Chill out and smile with me.

Adding sometimes I do the same, breeze right over words. Please accept my apology if I have offended you. I am still interested in the box cutter though! lol

Ben,
When I read multitool, I also thought that you were referring to a leatherman or a Gerber tool. I was wondering which blade you were talking about.
Keep in mind that the written text leaves out a lot of information as compared to the spoken word.
I do have a multitool. I just recently used one of those expensive carbide blades. They do cut right nails real fast.

I use the jab tool, or course blade keyhole saw. I find them at flea markets for a dollar. I have 4 or 5. I seldom have electricity at cutouts.

I apologize to you also Jim. I did not intend to confuse you either,  or anyone else for that matter when I used the words multi tool. This design is known as several different descriptions, depending on what company you buy it from. Which ever company you might choose or whatever description, I highly recommend anyone doing cutouts having one.
Again you are right when you say written text leaves out a lot of information as compared to the spoken word. Now hopefully all is clear. Adding;  I also have a letterman and a Gerber multi tool as you describe.  I did not know they offered a carbide blade for these.  I think each of mine came withI stainless steel.

I think Jim switched gears and was referring to the oscillating tool when referencing the carbide blade and nails.
