Hello from OBX NC
« on: December 28, 2011, 10:19:39 pm »
I joined the forum several yeras ago but due to family matters never got started with bees as I had planned. This spring Im making the commitment to starting two hives.I have a friend several counties away who is willing to help me get started and will mentor me along the way.

I have found this site and its members a driving force in keeping me motivated now.
Thanks to all.

Thank you.
Its a shame that for the last month or two every time I would ask someone about local bee keepers no one knew anyone in the area who keeps bees. They knew people years ago who have passed but did not know anyone in the area here keeping bees recently.

I got some used (25 deep bodies and frames plus extras including a new in the box two frame extractor)equipment from a friend to get started now. Im going to a class the the county Ag. Extention is hosting next Saturday for beginning bee keepers.
I will start cleaning up and repaining hive bodies the next sunny day I get.
Then getting bees in March through a friend who id picking up a 100 or so packages from Ga.
Ive got to order some protective gear and a smoker and a few other odds and ends to get me ready before March.
Im really getting excited. Its really going to happen finally.

It took me 5 years longer to get into bees than I had planned. Same thing, time/money/family committments. But, better late than never! Welcome...
