Title: first two swarms of the year
Post by: wildbeekeeper on May 05, 2009, 02:55:34 pm
Just thought I'd share a couple of pics of my first two swarms of the year.  the first was an east swarm on a hedge rwo an the second was 20 ft up on a roof edge lined with terracotta tile... that was not so fun... i think im going to build a bee vac to save some time in getting the "leftovers"

thanks for the link... I actually found it earlier and bought the supplies to build it today :)  now the fun begins!  fortunately (or not) its going to be colder with rain this week so little chance for swarms and good opportunity to build the bee vac!

Judging by the cinderblocks in the wall it is at least 20" long

the second was a monster!  itw as actually a little over three ft long and THICK with bees.... had to sweep several times to get them all and fortunately got the queen right away....i put the nuc box on the roof top and most of the bees went in but i had to make a several more sweeps and swept the bees onto a frame and placed it up near the nuc and they went in.....a bee vac would definately have been an asset.

When i dumped them into the hive they took up a good portion of frames....never did weigh them

As for the bee vac, once im done building it i will post pictures!

Good going Wildbeekeeper!!!  That swarm along the wall did look rather massive, keep on keepin' on.  Have that best and most wonderful day, health.  Cindi
