Hive weight pic, still gaining, 106 pounds!!
« on: September 12, 2019, 01:03:26 pm »

Weight gain every day, Fall flow is producing in N Arkansas, although very dry.  I am kinda surprised at the constant, daily weight gain.

I have been around bees a long time, since birth.  I am a hobbyist so my answers often reflect this fact.  I concentrate on genetics, raise my own queens by wet graft, nicot, with natural or II breeding.  I do not sell queens, I will give queens  for free but no shipping.

It?s bad dry here as well. I?ve been looking at GR in my fields and I?ve only seen one bee on it. I?m assuming flowers need rain to produce nectar.

Added graph of temp.  As I stated, smart hive for a dumb beekeeper,
Van

Add: sensor is inside hive:  outer frame, shaded side of a double high 5 frame nuc.

Nice graphs, even when the weather is dry plants still produce nectar and it's good to see the weight getting added on.

Thanks BEEBOY.  It is DRY for lack of rain.  I am expecting the Fall flow to end any day now.

I did not make the graph, it?s automatically made by the same software that weighs the hive.  All automatic, all I do is hold my phone next to hive sensor and weight with temperature is recorded and sent to the cloud where the data is stored and graphed for me.  Just a honeybee toy, or tool.

Yeah, I'm still in the dark ages with graph paper and pencils, LOL nice to see what a smart hive can do with all the new technology out there.

BEEBOY, first step is a Smart Hive, next is called a Genius Hive.  So what the heck is a genius hive, you may ask.  A Genius Hive is one that is weighted, temp, humidity and get this:;::::: the sensor in the hive phones me an alert when sounds of swarming or queenless roar is detected.  Yes, that is correct, my beehive phones me.  System to be completed in a few months.

When I first heard the word Genius Hive, I thought the computer geek was losing it upstairs.  Now I am integrated into a system of technological beekeeping, with artificial insemination of queens.  I wonder if I am going forward or backwards with the bees?

I call it smart hive for dumb beekeeper.

108.53 pounds today 9/14/19.  Still gaining about 2 pounds a day.  Very dry with no rain predicted next 7 days and way above average temperature, in the nineties for a high 90F plus.

Weather just set a new record in Arkansas, SEPTEMBER HAS BEEN THE HOTTEST MONTH OF THE YEAR  New record set this month.  Just very strange weather.

Sunday, 9/15/19.  Fall Flow coming to an end, hives only gained 0.5 pound this day.  Prior, Friday9/13  and earlier was 2 pounds gain a day, everyday.

As noted, VERY DRY, no rain in site and temps 10 degrees above average, that is in the 90F plus range everyday.  The good side is plenty of SunShine and calm winds with cool mornings.

Canadian beeks, and North US, what is your daily temps: below average, average, or above average?

Blazing Arkansas,

Sawtooth graph is headed on the downward slope.  Hive losing weight every day.  Flow is over for sure until we get some rain, very dry here in Arkansas.  Tuesday 9/17/19.

2/10 or 0.2 inch.  Not much but I am thankful.  Kind of you to ask, Nock.

9/25/19, Wednesday:  Different hive, I left the outside temp superimposed on the graph.  The large drop is do to a small cool front with . 2 inch rain.  Again slow steady drop.

So glad I pulled all supers.  6 hives and I had maybe 1.6 gal, and most of that was from my 2 oldest biggest hives.

looks like it will be a serious feeding year.

Thanks for the heads up on the weight loss!
