Queen catchers
« on: September 10, 2010, 03:42:48 am »
I just received my 4 new queen catchers from Mann Lake. Man, are those made of thin plastic!!!! Any light abuse or accidental crushing in the pockets would ruin one pretty easy from the feel of it. I don't know about these especially for $10 each. We'll see how they do on the job next season when I rescue more bees.

Anyone have the Mann Lake queen catcher and others for comparison? What's your preference?
Are the ones from Brushy Mtn better?

For a few bucks more, Brushy offers one made out of steel that is made in Germany.

I like the Brushy Mountain ones. I like the clear ones for obvious reasons. The Mann Lake ones stick out much farther on both sides and make them very difficult if not impossible to place into a hive box with ten frames. that's the main reason I don't use theirs.

Brushy Mountains go for $6.00 plus shipping of course.

Darn it. I should have asked before ordering though I ordered $500 worth of other stuff from them.
Guess I'll get it elsewhere next time after these break.  :-\

Unless you're as clumsy as an elephant and have two left feet they should last you a lot longer than you think.  ;)

I have a 4-year-old; things just break when he just looks at it.     With those Mann lake catchers, at least you got free embedded shipping.
