Probably the people, not necessarily all Democrats, thought he was a war hero. He was shot down! usually you can't pick and choose where a AA shell may explode thankfully he wasn't killed (although some sound as though they wish he had been) ("He's not a war hero," Trump said in 2015. "He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured.") Apparently he had refused to be exchanged for VC POW until US POWs who had been captured earlier had been released. GT didn't even run the risk of becoming a POW.

First, I joined the Army, then when they sent me to Germany, I put in a request for transfer to "nam. I, like Trump, wanted to serve my country. He, with millions of dollars of his own money, and his brain, me with my mind and body.

Guess I'll jump in and stir the pot a little. It was very clear when Hillary made that "deplorable" statement she was talking about virulent racists, those that pray for a day of an all white America. If that is how you think, then by all means proudly declare that title.

I apologize. That is the exact comment. I would be ashamed to identify myself with any of those titles. I guess what gets under my skin is seeing people on tv and the street with bumper stickers and signs declaring themselves "deplorable". I'm sure they mean " I support the president but what they are saying is, "I'm consumed by hatred and fear."
