Brood Comb on Bottom of Frames
« on: May 08, 2017, 10:31:39 pm »
Okay, first year beekeeping so I'm definitely still figuring things out. On one of my hives I've noticed what seems to me like a lot of brood comb hanging off the bottom of some frames. I don't see any queen cells or anything. Didn't get any pictures this time around. Just didn't know if I should be alarmed??

There just filling up space. Not a big problem. Usually it's drone comb. You can scrape it off.

There has to be more to this story.
Brood on the bottom of frame and nowhere else?  Hive full?  Hive empty?  configuration? Location?

No there's definitely brood elsewhere on the frames. The hive isn't full, still 2 outer frames untouched. It's an 8 frame Langstroth.

Welcome.

I'm assuming one box.  There's a little extra space between the bottom of the frames and the bottom board.  Like already stated, the bees will sometimes fill this extra space with comb.  Most just scrape it off.

Or just leave it. They will probably just re add it.
I do not remove it unless there is a box below it and if left bees would get crushed when I put the frame back in or lowered the box back over the one below.
