Spoiled honey?
« on: May 22, 2010, 07:55:14 pm »
I got some honey from a cutout. It is in a cooler until I can crush/strain it. When I open the cooler, it smells like wine. Does this mean it fermented and is bad?

could be depending on the moisture content. I have also found that honey from cutouts is usually best fed back to the bees. a lot depends on how old the comb was from the cutout. I havent had much luck with crush and strain from a cutout that has old comb. it will taint the flavor of the honey
never take the top off a hive on a day that you wouldn't want the roof taken off your house

Sounds like it fermented. Do not feed it back to the bees. Make mead.
