Title: Putting comb from cutout in frame
Post by: rayb on May 18, 2008, 09:46:55 pm
Tuesday I do my first cutout and have a question about putting the combs into the frames. I will use rubber bands to secure them.

Do make a guide at the top of the frame like when we do foundationless frames?

Or do I  just size the comb to the frame and let  them attach everything to the top, bottom and sides?

Thanks, Ray

I place frame on top of comb and score. I use a milk crate as a table. Once I score, i cut comb and insert into frame and rubberband.

do your best to size it to the frame, but if you get smaller pieces of brood comb, just band them in the best you can.   the bees will attach it in the hive.  try to keep it as straight and lined up in the frame as you can.  if you don't, you'll end up with funky comb when they attach it.

take pictures and share the results with us!!!!  good luck.  have fun!!!!!   :-D
