Big Bee Buzz -- April 1-2, 2016 in Tulsa Oklahoma
« on: February 09, 2016, 09:38:30 pm »
The Northeast Oklahoma Beekeepers Assocation (NEOBA) will hold the annual Big Bee Buzz on the evening of Friday, April 1, 2015 and during the day on Saturday, April 2, 2016.

This is going to be a particularly strong conference. Speakers will include:

Dr. Diana Sammataro has done extensive research about honey bees and was most recently employed by the USDA Tuscon Bee Lab. She is now retired and doing independent research, writing, and lecturing.

Dr. Meghan Milbrath, comes from a beekeeping family, and has worked with Michigan State University as the coordinator of the Michigan Pollinator Initiative, which works to identify and address threats to bees in Michigan. She is running over 100 hives and is engaged in queen rearing.

Megan Mahoney is a beekeeper from Albuquerque who is now working through Texas A&M University and the Bee Informed Partnership monitoring beehives for diseases and lots of other criteria. During the last several years she also worked in commercial queen rearing operations in Northern California.

Ed Levi is a former apiary inspector for Arkansas and a sideline beekeeper who does lots of work teaching beekeeping to persons in other countries as a form of economic development.

The meeting will occur at Eastside Christian Church, 1438 South Indianapolis Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74112.

Cost is $35, which will include dinner Friday (pizza), donuts and coffee Saturday morning, and lunch Saturday (barbeque and sides). We strive to make this event the best deal in the beekeeping seminar world. (And I think we succeed.)

 Local vendors will be present.

Although you are welcome to pay at the door on the day of the event, we really appreciate it if you will pre-register to help us with planning. Online registration is already available at NEOBA.org.

The final speaking schedule and topics have not yet been set in stone, but will be soon. Topics will emphasize practical ideas for being a better beekeeper including best practices as revealed by the Bee Informed surveys, bee nutrition, monitoring for varroa mites, working towards treatment-free beekeeping, and top bar hive management.

The emphasis this year will be on practical beekeeping for beginning to advanced beekeepers.

Post any questions you have or send me a PM.

Thanks,

Neil, for NEOBA
