I take care of my chickens with the "Tough Love" mentality!
"Toughen up or you are the families dinner!"  ;)
No heat lamp for my birds, once they get used to it they become wimps and then you have to use it all the time. I do keep a reg. light bulb on during the winter months for the egg production, as we sell our eggs. They don't get heat from it though as a sparrow could fly threw the shed walls from all the cracks and openings (built around 1916).
I have been starting to keep my bees with the "Tough Love" mentality to and they have been wintering over a lot better than they used to (winter hardy).
I believe people cater to and coddle everything way too much nowadays and turn them into wimps!
Next on the "Tough Love" list are the Kids!!!!! Can't wait!
and maybe the wife????

Careful she doesn't get the idea first and put you out in the garage.
