Title: Looking for catkins willow (Pussywillow)
Post by: drewdist on January 30, 2016, 08:50:46 am
Does anyone have catkins willow to trade or sale?  The forum wont let me use the term in place of catkins most people are familiar with. Would prefer shoots or bare root.

Weeping willow cuttings root easily, but I don't know about the kind of willow you're looking for.  Craft stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Joann's sell decorative bunches of cuttings of both.  They are dried, and you'd never expect them to sprout roots, but put them in water and they (weeping willow, that is) take right off.  You can even grind up willow twigs, make a tea with it and use the tea as a rooting hormone for all kinds of cuttings

I like these folks - I've bought from them in the past and will buy again this spring.

They don't list s.caprea or s. discolor though... don't know if any of the willows they list would suit your purposes.

Drewdist - where are you?   Forum members who are close by might be able to send you some.

p.s.   Still laughing that 'pushy'willow is blocked by the forum.   eye roll.

It is the first half of the word, as it can be a very derogatory term. Not sure if posted as all one word,it may go by the filter. I will try it.
Pussywillow.

Willow tea will root hair on your head - it's that good.

You can also burn willow, recover the ashes and use them as a mild pain reliever akin to aspirin.

I looked at the range chart, looks like it is pretty close to Jacksonville. Does anyone know if it will grow here? I know Weeping and Curley Willow will.
