this was hubbys first extraction. we had a great time. we were going to do the "hard" hive first. it turned out to be the easy, gentle hive. the second had many more bees and they were not happy. only got stung a few times. most were nothing. then we got home....i thought i'd pull the duct tape off the sides. without thinking, i wadded up the pieces in my hand. sure enough, there was an angry bee stuck to the tape and it nailed my on the palm of the hand. that is a tender place!!!
anyway, got both queens and it was fun. a good amount of honey for so early in the year.

Great pictures, looks like you'al did a great job. There were a lot of bees according to the pictures, and they should make to good hives. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic, Kathy, textbook stuff there, two new hives and you got the queens! Bravo! Thanks for sharing.

i forgot to mention that this was a grass seed farm. the bees were in the seed bin walls. by the time we were done, i looked like a health food store cookie. :-)

Good description, you better stay away from the vegans then, they might mistake you for a granola crunch bar.

i finally looked at the pictures. for some reason, we both wore black jeans that day. the pictures are of my husband, except the last one in the back of the truck. that's me :-) i want to give hubby credit because he did the heavy work removing the plywood, etc., and was right in there when i was cleaning out the hive. he was the bottom of the ladder man :-). the best part is that he had fun. we don't get to do to many things together, so it was nice that he enjoyed the adventure!
