Look who came for dinner, pic
« on: September 04, 2020, 10:20:54 pm »
I have been around bees a long time, since birth.  I am a hobbyist so my answers often reflect this fact.  I concentrate on genetics, raise my own queens by wet graft, nicot, with natural or II breeding.  I do not sell queens, I will give queens  for free but no shipping.

European hornet, note the red on upper body.  This hornet was picking off my honey bees.  Caught red handed.

Cheers

I wished I had a better camera than my iPhone.  Those jaws are wicked, tear a bee head off easily.  But not seen so good in the pic.

For size comparison: yellow jacket and two European Hornet.  I call it a yellow jacket: black with yellow stripes.  See Ms. Member for exact species.  I kinda lump insects together.

Wow, those hornets are HUGE!

Thanks for the recommendation.   That is a yellowjacket.  I'm not sure, but I think that might be the kind that people call aerial yellowjackets.
I come from under the hill, and under the hills and over the hills my paths led.  And through the air, I am she that walks unseen.

Those hornets have a stinger to match their size: could sew fabric with it.
