not too long ago... maybe a few weeks ago on a warm day, I removed two frames that had been drawn out all funky and replaced them with blank foundation frames. One of the funky frames had uncapped honey that had a rather interesting taste. It had a sort of "menthol" taste... but in a good way. Kind of hard to describe... the effect of the taste was similar but weaker to having a spoon of cough syrup.
Any ideas what floral source that could be? Don't know if mint grows at this time over here.
old honey from last fall or new honey from this year?
If it's this year my only hint is the menthol: purple deadnettle and creepy-charlie (ground ivy) are both in the mint family.
if it's last year could it be goldenrod? goldenrod has a distinctive flavor profile - kind of a tang or a bite to it. I don't like it but some goldenrod honey took second place at the club's taste contest, so some folks must!
EDIT: I saw a basil bloom on the other thread. So that's a candidate, as would be thyme or oregano. MMM I'd love to have a whole meadow of oregano.
