Title: Top bar hive feeding
Post by: BC on February 19, 2010, 02:55:52 pm
I'm going to be installing a package in March. I have some plastic frames of honey left over from a hive last year. I would like to some how feed it to them. Will the queen start laying in the frames if I put them in the hive. I'm trying to avoid feeding them sugar syrup.
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
BC

If you are using follower boards you could lay the frames on a follower and cut them with a jig saw or a saws all.  I used a saws all with a fine blade to cut through the frame and comb but no plastic and it worked fine.  Sticky but did ok with water cleanup.  You can use the scrap pieces also by leaning them against the end of the hive.  They will use the one you cut to fit as they please, but the ones on the floor at the end they will just clean up.  Once they clean the scraps you can remove them.
