« on: December 19, 2011, 02:21:24 pm »
i bought a hive that had a lid made out of a piece of 3/4 plywood with a hole drilled to the side and a 1/2 hole on the edge. looks like its wax coated.. looks simple enough to make.. are they common? whats the holes for?

Hmm.  I'm sure somebody knows better than me, but...

If the top is slid over to the side a bit, the notch on the edge could be use as a vent or entrance.  I've seen John Pluta (and others) use plastic drink bottles stuck down in small holes as feeders.

That's my shot at it anyhow. :)

It could be that the board was cut from a scrap piece of plywood and the holes
were already in the scrap. A posibality.

Got me :?  Beeks come up with some crazy designs.  They need to staple instructions to the things  ;)

Buds right.  BB Plyform. a used concrete form. the holes are for wall ties and whaler boards. the stuff will not rot.  my father in law has a trailer load of them thats 25 years old and still servicable.
