« on: January 14, 2008, 01:34:00 pm »
So, since I didn't see a January topic, I might as well start it  :-P

Here are some photos that I've taken recently that I'd enter.

Thanks!

"Hey Son"

[Edit - I added this new photo below of my beehives due to a few recommendations - thanks!]

Scott, beautiful, I particularly loved the one of your Son looking at you, awesome.

Now the one of the mountains.  You are in Salt Lake City.  I remember when my Sister and her family lived there, she spoke of the inversion that occurred so often where she lived. Is that cloud part of this cloud cover that occurs?  I am curious about that.  I loved this picture too.

Ken, beautiful shot, I love the picture of the whisper of snow that I see in pictures like that.  Great shots, guys.  Have a wonderful, greatest of days.  Cindi

Cindi -

The inversion happens because the smog and dust and such can't get over the mountains during winter since there is heavy cloud cover, and low winds. So far, we've been OK with that, and in my valley (Utah County - just south of SLC), we haven't had it really at all - maybe a little.

The clouds in this picture are of a storm system getting pushed on, and this was the tail end. We had just received some snow the day before, and some nice winds came along in the early morning and pushed it all away. The color of the clouds in my photo have been darkened a bit with Photoshop so you can see it better, but the smoothness and texture are just about the same as what I saw with my eye.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I think photography is such a wonderful expression of our beautiful world.

Scott

Scott, my Sister lived in the Cottonwood area, south of SLC, sounds like you guys might have been in a similar area.  Great day, great life.  Cindi

Yup! Definitely in my neck of the wood, per se. It's maybe 30 minutes North of me. Nice area!

Ken, that photo is so idyllic. So country, so peaceful. Love the snow blowing off the barn.

Also love that photo of the snow covered bee hives from Scott

This may seem like a silly picture, but there's a story behind it. I never met my wife's Mom and this picture was taken on Mother's day some yrs ago. My wife was close to her Mom, and to cheer her up we decided at the very last minute to drive to Pensacola, Florida, just to see the sunset, and have a bite to eat. We were enjoying the moment and I had to take this silly picture, but we laugh and remeber that trip whenever we see this.

Sorry, I know its not really a January picture theme, but just came across it and wanted to share.

JP, ha, ha, ah, ha....now that is one cool picture.  Isn't it funny the things that we do, and then years later, we can look back and laugh and laugh.  I loved that picture and loved you shared it with us.  Best of a beautiful day, Cindi

JP, great shot, it looks really cold.  But I thought that you lived in Louisianna?  How did you get that picture?   :? :) :)  Best of a great day, Cindi

I didn't take it that's how!!! Baaaahaahaahah! :-D :-D :-D

Copy and pasted from brookhaven weather website. We are great friends with the former owners and they called me @ 7am Saturday to tell me to get my butt up there cause it was snowing. Couldn't go though. :( Gotta go now, see ya.

Awesome images. I like the one of your backyard with the snow covering the bridge! We sure have gotten a lot of snow lately!

Franz, those pictures were absolutely stunning, it reminded me of postcard scenes that I have seen, beautiful, beautiful.

Annette, what you should see in Franz' post is two lines that have

photobucket
photobucket

both the lines are highlighted in blue.  That is what you should see.  If you don't see it highlighted in blue, then some is indeed array.  Franz inadvertently put the photobucket link in two times I think because both links were the same pictures.  But hey, Try and figure it out Annette, because when you see these pictures, you will know that it would have been worth it.  I am curious why you couldn't see the blue highlighted words.  If you find out, let us in on this mystery, I love a mystery, hee, hee.  Have an awesome day, Cindi
